Grocery Bus Assistant

The Good Companions is a not-for-profit organization that offers programs and services in partnership with volunteers, to promote, enhance and support the well-being, independence and zest for living of both seniors and of adults with physical disabilities in the Ottawa area. We are currently looking to hire a Grocery Bus Assistant, who will be responsible for the safe and efficient implementation of the seniors’ weekly Grocery Bus.

This casual position is for approximately 6.5 hours on Tuesdays in Centretown and pays $11.25 per hour.  Qualifications include: High School Diploma and a Degree/Diploma (or working towards one ) in one of the following areas preferred:  Social Services, Social Sciences, Volunteer Management, Gerontology or Nursing and/or 1-2 years working with older adults or persons with a physical disability.  Leadership skills and excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work in high demand, multi-task situations are essential.

The successful candidate will also be capable of working in all weather conditions, indoors and outdoors and sufficiently physically fit to, lift and carry groceries, walkers and assist clients on and off the bus.
